What is the best investment you could possibly make in your life?
Quitting smoking, of course.
Now if you already happen to be an ex-smoker then this does not apply, as you are already enjoying the vast benefits of living smoke-free. But if you happen to still be caught up in the grip of Nicotine addiction, then quitting is the single best investment you can make. Many will consider the decision but opt out after experiencing some of the giving up smoking side effects that are so uncomfortable.
How is this so? Let us count the ways:
1) Financially - most people spend somewhere around 2 to 3 thousand dollars per year on cigarettes and lighters. Now this is actually a number that most people can rationalize if they truly enjoy the habit, which all of them will say that they do.
But I used to “enjoy” my habit of smoking, until I realized that I really only enjoyed about one or two puffs out of each day of smoking. The other 98 percent of my cigarettes were actually quite miserable. I was constantly just trying to “fill up my nicotine tank” instead of actually catching any sort of decent buzz from the cigarette.
The costs balloon out from there when you consider health care and future diseases. In fact, the financial cost is near infinite when you consider that you will likely die about 10 years early if you continue to smoke.
How much is 10 years of your life worth?
2) Time - This is outrageous as a pack-a-day smoker spends over a full month out of each year puffing on cigarettes. Most smokers do not even believe this statistic because it is so shocking. A smoker literally spends over an entire month out of each year physically engaged in the act of smoking. This is astounding and should jar you into quitting all by itself. Think of the lost time and lost productivity. Anyone who truly grasps these numbers should want to quit smoking for good.
There are other reasons that quitting is the best investment for you. Can you think of any?
