Stop Smoking Products

Should you use stop smoking products to help you to quit smoking?  In some cases they will help you and in other cases they might just distract you from your true goal of quitting.  In other words, some people get addicted to trying different quit smoking products, simply so they can jump around from one to the other and feel better about themselves that they are “trying to quit.”  In fact, they might not really be trying and this is just their way of feeling better about their smoking.  A bit weird but it does happen.  Some people will stick with just one product, such as the nicotine gum.  They might switch back and forth from the gum to their cigarettes for years and years, never quitting either one permanently, and simply using the gum as an ongoing excuse of sorts.

Now obviously if you find yourself in a pattern like this then you need to become aware of that pattern and decide what you really want.  Do you want to keep smoking and play games and stay hooked on nicotine, or do you want to finally be rid of smoking and the rest of this junk and be done with it altogether?  If you really want freedom then in the end you need to make a decision to quit using nicotine.

There is a difference between quitting smoking and quitting nicotine.  I suggest that you try to give up using nicotine.  And I suggest you do it cold turkey.  Rip it off like it is a band aid and get it over with.  Plan on being cranky and miserable for about 5 to 7 days.  After that, things will get MUCH better.  If you really quit nicotine cold turkey, you will be feeling good again before you get to the 2 week mark.  If you drag it out with a nicotine replacement product, it might be months before you are truly drug free and feeling good about yourself again, because your body will still be hooked on a drug.

So if you decide to quit using nicotine, you still might have some products for quitting smoking available to you, just not the ones with nicotine in them.  For example, you might use quit smoking medications, or you might try some techniques such as acupuncture or hypnosis.  I would recommend these ideas over anything that contains nicotine in them anyway.  Find alternatives that do not keep you addicted to the very drug you are trying to quit using.
