More about Smoking Facts

The fact is that if you smoke over a pack of cigarettes every day then you are wasting an entire month out of each year just engaged in the act of smoking.

Seriously.

If you smoke about a pack and a half per day, and you are an average smoker, then you are wasting a full month out of each year.  Literally, if you added up the entire amount of time that you spend actually smoking cigarettes each year, it would total up to 30 days.

This is absolutely insane.  The thing that tricks out minds so deviously is that our brain will hang on to the little bit of enjoyment that we get out of smoking.  In fact, we do get a tiny bit of real, actual pleasure and relief from smoking.  This much is true.  That is why it is so hard to quit.  Because our brain focuses on the good memories.  It is wired that way.  We are made to remember the good things.

But if you were to actually measure how many minutes of pleasure you get out of smoking over the course of an entire year, it would probably only total about an hour or so.  The first hit of that first cigarette in the morning; that deep draw you take after finishing a huge meal….sure, there are brief moments of pleasure.  But ultimately, how much pleasure are you really getting?  Add it all up.  Get out a stopwatch and time your moments of satisfaction.

The most shocking of all smoking facts is this: that the total time you actually enjoy smoking can be measured in seconds per day.  It totals about an hour or two each year.  And yet you spend over a month out of every year, chasing those tiny moments of pleasure.

Do the math.  Start keeping track.  Then recognize the insanity and QUIT.
