There are a couple of different quit smoking cigarettes out there that are designed to help you quit smoking. Each one is a little bit different and operates based on a different idea, so let’s take a look.
Nicotine free cigarettes – these are genetically modified tobacco cigarettes that contain no nicotine in them. They otherwise taste and smoke just like a real cigarette, but they do not have any addictive nicotine in them at all. They have a step down system where you can smoke different levels of cigarettes that contain less and less nicotine in each one, then you are eventually smoking the nicotine free ones. The manufacturer says “then you can decide if you want to quit or not.”
Does it work? Maybe for some. I have smoked these myself and they are terrible. It is like a cruel joke to smoke a cigarette that has no nicotine in it. I think it messes with your head. Not recommended.
E cigarettes – These are electronic cigarettes that deliver nicotine without the smoke and the tar. Instead they are a metal cigarette that you have to fill up with new “loads” in order to smoke again. They have priced them similar to real cigarettes and the idea is that you can at least get away from the tar and the harsh smoke while you try to quit smoking. In some cases they do not even really market them as a quit smoking cigarette, but as more of an alternative to regular smokes.
Does it work? Not sure….I have not tried them directly as I quit before they came out. But I have seen people who have used them to quit. Some people get hooked on it though and just keep using the e cigarette instead.
Herbal cigarettes – there are also smokes out there that do not have any nicotine in them but contain other herbal substances, such as cloves. These are not really a great alternative to cigarettes and many of them also contain nicotine in them as well. Sort of just another gimmick really to sell more tobacco.
Smokeless cigarette – you can even buy a dummy cigarette that doesn’t do a darn thing, it is just there so you can hold on to something while you are gritting your teeth and wanting to smoke so badly.
Does it work? I would just use a pen, especially one that has a clicker on the end of it, so that you can drive everyone nuts by clicking the pen over and over again all day. Hey, if you can’t smoke, you might as well have some fun, right?
Bottom line: if you are gonna quit smoking, you might want to avoid all of these alternatives as well…..
